OLD MACDONALD DUCK (Disney, 1941)

First watch the cartoon (Thanks, YouTube!)

Now look at the B/G art...

DONALD'S VACATION

Here's a perfect cartoon for the week of July 4th - DONALD'S VACATION (1940). Above is the original theatrical release poster. Below, the cartoon's title card:

The cartoon has lavish background art. Disney artists had reached their peak - SNOW WHITE and PINOCCHIO were done, FANTASIA was in production. It's astonishing this level of artwork was created for a short!

DONALD'S VACATION had one of the most difficult pan backgrounds I've ever digitally re-assembled. The camera followed a twisting arc, as well as including a zoom, pan and a multiplane tree! It took two days - but I managed to finish this intriguing piece of art. Here's the whole pan B/G:

Here's the left side:

The right side:

Just for kicks, I adjusted the B/G to nearly level, to give us another view:

Here are several additional pieces from the film:

Spectacular!

Donald Duck's THE LITTERBUG (1961)

THE LITTERBUG is an obscure Donald Duck featurette. I specifically chose this this short because of its ultra-modern background art - and this incredibly long pan background!

Here are close-ups of the three stylish sections.

And for good measure, here are a few other B/G pieces from this 1961 film:

EGYPT - Donald And the Wheel (1961)

This is actually one of several segments from a truly humungous master pan BG. Previously I posted the recreated Greek section.

I've been meaning to work on this EGYPT section for months. I finally got around to it! It wasn't easy. There is a chariot race is this scene. I could only build this slowly, one slice at a time. Near the end of the "pan," two horses (with two different Donalds!) actually criss-cross! Here's what I had to contend with:

I couldn't clear the entire image, but I was able to recreate most of the pan background, with Donald and his horse split. Don't even ask me why, it just worked out this way! I did a little clean-up painting in Photoshop, but 99% of this is original and un-retouched,

As usual I have split the sections so you can see more detail. Here's the left side Sphinx section.

Here's a close-up of the right side. I like the little cluster of palm trees in the middle.

I am far from expert at mediums, but it appears to be pastels. Expert opinions - please!

Donald Duck: STUCK ON CHRISTMAS (2000)

Here is some Christmas art from STUCK ON CHRISTMAS, a direct-to-video cartoon from Disney's "Once Upon A Christmas" DVD.
First, the title card:

Here's a re-created pan B/G. Since Donald is sleeping, he remains in place...

I was able to digitally remove Dale, but Chip remains...
